Purity told me she’s interested in being a nurse. This week, my students are giving their career power point presentations so careers is kinda on my brain. You know Purity, your Grandma was a nurse and such a good one. I had the opportunity to get to work with her when I got out of high school. I remember there was this really mean patient. But when he saw grandma, he turned into a sweetheart. She was so comforting (as you know) and he really appreciated her. He looked at her like she was an angel. And nurses make pretty good money too. Grandma was a registered nurse. I thought about going into it too. If I had, I would have been a surgical nurse. I’m not squeemish and surgical nurses make a TON of money!

Notice that Katie the nurse discussed various ranges of salaries. Nurses who made money by the hour made less and had less schooling. Those who made money by the year made lots more but had to have more schooling. You can always start small (with less schooling and less pay) and see if you like it. And the best thing about a medical job is your knowledge as a medical person is ALWAYS valuable. We have several teachers at work who were once nurses. During disaster situations, they are stationed in First Aid to help those who’ve been hurt. Skills that everyone needs = job security.
