As the big black bunny came to a shrieking halt in the woody forest, Purity and Bea looked around.
“I don’t see Prudence anywhere, do you?” Purity asked.
“No, I don’t,” replied Bea. But the rabbit refused to move onward. In fact, he layed right down and started to nibble on a blade of tall grass. The two girls scurried down either side of his back and started to walk into a bramble bush.
“No, THIS way!” They heard their sister’s voice call them. She was standing in the doorway of a miniature stone house erected next to other, bigger boulders. If the girls had been normal size, they would have walked right past it.
“Prudy! There you are! We were wondering where you were!” The girls said as they rushed into their oldest sister’s loving arms. Her hair was longer than they remembered, but still flaming red. Once in her arms, they were all three quiet. They hugged each other for a long time. They could feel the cool cloth of her sleeves around them and the sweet citric smell of the perfume she always wore. Purity drank in that smell with every breath she took in. She did not want to forget that smell.
“We missed you so much, Prudy! Why haven’t you come to get us sooner? inquired Bea as she grabbed her older sister’s hand and began caressing each of her long fingertips.
“Magic takes quite a bit out of me, I’m afraid. Besides, I visited you in your dreams. Don’t you remember?” answered Prudy.
“Yes, we are so glad you did,” Purity said. “What is this place, Prudy?”
“It’s my home among ‘the Fay,'” replied Prudy.
“The Fay? What is that?” The girls said together.
“Well, we are in an Irish forest and the fairies, or Fay are the little people who live here. They rented this house to me so we could visit each other. They like to do “sketchy” things, you see. So, when I told the Fairie King our story, he wanted to help.”
“What are we gonna do here?” asked Bea.
“Whatever we want, dear one! Prudy announced. We’ll be together! That’s what matters. Let’s go into the house and make something yummy to eat. I wanna hear all about high school and everything.” And so arm in arm, they went into the little stone house and shut the door.
