I’d love to take credit for this, but I have to give credit where it is due. This mnemonic belongs to Dr. Wayne Dyer. He’s one of my gurus/teachers. I told you I’d tell you how to address your problems and move on. Here’s an example from my life.
I just went down to have breakfast. I was woken up last night with a phone call so the hotel gave me a voucher for free breakfast. I order breakfast, but it isn’t the way I want it. I ask the waiter to change it. He does, but I can tell he thinks I’m being fussy. I try to talk to him about it, but he’s not open. In his mind, I’m wrong. OK, so I cannot change his mind. So, I change mine.
I eat my new breakfast and go upstairs. I can, of course, write a comment card about my treatment at the hotel (being awoken for no reason, shoty breakfast service) but I realize it is just my ego that is hurt.
There is no need to defend your ego. When you do, you are edging out God or the Godliness within you. I can get all upset of his ill humored treatment /OR/ just go about my business of finding joy in my day. Which is better? Anger or Joy? That’s a no brainer, right?! It is simple: stay with people and situations that create joy in your life and stay away from people and situations that create negative feelings. CHANGE THE WAY YOU REACT to the other people in your life. The one thing you can control is…yourself! It truly doesn’t matter what others do, or say or even think. Your thoughts and feelings matter. Honor them today and everyday. Namaste!
