Who is Saint Nicholas? The Catholics have this cool story about a man named Bishop Nicholas who was kind and generous. He discovered that a town many days away from him was filled with people who were starving. Even the children were starving. So he had his people gather all the food they could. They gathered it onto a huge ship and then they journeyed to the city. They passed out all the food. Now, St. Nicholas has passed on and has been made a saint by his church. It is believed that Mary, the mother of Jesus bids St. Nick to go into the world with gifts of generosity in anticipation of the anniversary of Jesus’ birth. So, St. Nick chooses one generous person to be the one who passes out the generosity. Will it be you? Will it be me? I don’t know? I think I’ll find a way to do as Marmee does in Little Women and perform a random act of generosity sometime today.
In the meantime, Purity, you sang this song at a Christmas program at your school MANY years ago. You were in second grade. I was so proud of you. It’s a good song about St. Nicholas – or as you call him – Santa Claus.
