Spin Dreidle, Spin

Chanukah night seven. It’s been a long week.  Busy day today too (see next post) Tonight, I’m hangin out with a teacher friend from work.  I’m making brisket (pulled barbecue beef) and potato pancakes.  We’ll play a little driedle, laugh and talk.  It should be fun.  This friend – well – she’s like superwoman.  She does it all.  We are very different people but we respect each other’s differences.  I’m so lucky to have her as a collegue and friend.  She’ll be over soon and then we’ll start our nosh (that’s Jewish for meal or snack). What’s a Dreidle?  That’s the spinning top we play with.  We play for pieces of chocolate wrapped in gold foil.  (See above).  In the background, we’ll have music like this.  It’s called Kleztmer music.  It’s a combination of music of Eastern Europe and more Orthodox Jews known as the Chasidim.  Give the song a few minutes.  It starts with a simple rubber band and builds from there.  I went to see this group perform  last year at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. They are the world famous Klezmatics!  Their song: Spin Dreidle, Spin.
