Last year during the month of May, I discussed Mental Health issues as a way of addressing Mental Health Awareness Month.
This year, I intend to focus on certain words that relate to mental health issues. Depression is NOT a condition you can merely “snap” out of. You need help. And if someone uses the word “suicide” pay attention – they are asking for YOUR help. These ideas should not be unknown to us. There are some words/ideas that maybe unknown to the masses. For example, I told my students about the idea of scapegoating last year.
Scapegoating is when one or more people are blamed for everything. An example of this is how Jews are blamed by Nazi skinheads for the world economy. Because so many Jews have money and powerful positions in business, it is their fault that others do not have these things.
People who scapegoat are trying to turn the blame away from themselves. They refuse to see their own responsibility. They are insecure. Just remember that the next time someone tries to pin blame on you for something you did not do (or something you are only partly responsible for).
