When I was a kid, I loved the TV show Fame. It was about a group of kids who went to a performing arts high school in New York City. Doris, this Jewish gal who has a gorgeous voice, sings this song with her piano playing friend, Bruno.
I cannot guarantee that you wont fall if you take “that first step.” I “fall” quite frequently. You gotta realize that making mistakes is a given in life. You are going to make them. And, if you don’t make any mistakes – you won’t be living much of a life.
Perhaps the best thing to do is be prepared to fail AND win.
Here’s an example: Today, the property manager and I had it out over getting the garage door fixed. It’s been broken since Tuesday night. I called her Wednesday morning. She told me she’d have the garage people call me. They never did so on Thursday, I called them. They came out today to fix the garage door. When I tell the property manager what it will cost, she tells me to wait. But the guy is HERE, NOW…ready to fix it. I tell him to fix the door. Then, the property manager is mad at me because I told the guy (she wanted to fix the door) to go ahead. We go back and forth. In the end, I’m paying the difference. I want the door fixed! Yeah, I lost this one. But I let the property manager know that SHE dropped the ball too. She’s so paranoid! This is the person she wanted to fix the door. Some people are so irritating!
Yeah, I’ve taken a step and “stumbled.” I’m $80 poorer, but I’m still glad the door is fixed. My car will be safely inside tonight and my home will be secure tonight.
Anyway, enjoy Doris’ singing. No guarantees you won’t stumble. Be ready for it, but also ready to soar. Sometimes, you do that too!
