I heard this song on the radio last night as I was on the way to my friend’s birthday celebration. Just being yourself as a teenager can be hard. Your body is changing in strange ways. You are not a little girl anymore, but you don’t have the experience and knowledge of being an adult. It can be such a hard time – that in between time. But everyone you go to school with is going through the same things. All of them are struggling with something. The harder they try to hide that fact, the more pain they are hiding.
But one GOOD thing about this time is that you are on this amazing journey to discover who YOU are. You’ll discover your weaknesses, but also your strengths. You’ll discover what you’ll step up for and what you will cut away from your life when you have more power to do so.
This is a special time. Try …to just be yourself. One cool thing about teenagers is that they are pretty aware of BS when they see it. When they see the truth in you, they’ll appreciate it too (most of them will, anyway.)
I’ll leave you with this: When I was in high school, I wanted to be an actor. Well, in English class, one day, we started reading the play Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw. I had a really good Cockney accent so I was chosen to read the part of Eliza (the main female part) on the first day. The next day, the kids in my English class, who I thought didn’t like me, unanimously voted that I should read the part for the entire length of the play. Sure they didn’t want to read, but they appreciated a talent they saw in me and spoke up about it. That’s what I mean by being yourself. Find what YOU can give that is unique to you and then TRY to share it with the rest of the world.
