We all have bad dreams sometimes. And we ALL have unfortunate things happen to us. Do not let it define you. Do not let it make you bitter. Just keep plugging along.
Today, the Sketchy Scribe remembers September 11, 2001.
It was my first year of teaching. I went into the teacher’s lounge to get something and the tv was on. New York City was on fire.
Then, I watched the replay of the plane crashing into one of the twin towers. I couldn’t move. It was surreal. America was under attack. This had never happened before. For the rest of the day, I dealt with frightened students, parents and staff members trying to make sense of the calamity. And my heart went out to those in New York City.
Today, we remember those who perished in the 9/11 attacks. Those who REFUSED to be controlled into taking down our national treasures: the White House, the Pentagon. They took a bullet and sacrificed their lives for their country. Every time I say the Pledge of Alligence, I think of these people and the more than 2,000 people who lost their lives. I think too of the firefighters who worked around the clock to save so many people lost in the rubble.
Puts things into perspective, doesn’t it?! Life now seems pretty good compared to that “day that no one saw coming.”
