Today is the second and final day of the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashana. Rosh Hashana literally means “head of the year.” During this holiday, Jews celebrate the birthday of the world. Jewish legends say that the world was created during this time. I know that sounds hard to believe, but Jews are on a lunar (moon) calendar and they’ve been marking time for over fifty seven hundred years. That’s right! You thought you were in the year 2016. We are celebrating the year 5777. Amazing, huh!?
Anyway, we celebrate by going to temple and listening to the call of the ram’s horn or the shofar. Our shofar blower can literally change the air in the room when he blows his ram’s horn (shofar). Let’s see how this shofar blower does…
We also eat lots of special foods like apples dipped in honey, round bread baked with juicy raisins and a sweet noodle pudding called kugel. And we sing! So, “Dip Your Apple” a few times in some honey and sing along, sweet girls!
