The plane is about to take off from JFK to LAX but I wanted to finish posting to you. I went to Ellis Island after the Statue of Liberty. It was very emotional there because I found that BOTH of my grandparents came through Ellis Island at different times. My grandmother (who was such a sweet soul and would have considered
you her great granddaughters) was 23 years old when she landed on Ellis Island with her niece: Marion. She was escorting her to America it seems. She arrived here 2nd class on the ship, the Columbia. She had the equivalent of about $7 in her pocket when she got here. What a brave woman. I guess I can see where I get my independent, stubborn streak. Her name was Grace. We called her “Wee Gracie.”
