Now that Yom Kippur is over, we have a holiday called the Festival of Booths. You see, sweet sisters, the Israelites were (and still are) farmers. Every year at harvest time, the farmers would go out into the fields to collect their crops. Most fields were HUGE. So, the Israelites would construct booths or succot (pronounced – sue coat) to sleep and eat in as they were harvesting. Succot is a week long holiday. Every night, Jews are supposed to hang out, study, eat and sleep in the sukkah (one sukkah, many succot). I do not own a sukkah at this time. I’ve never had a backyard to put it in. And making one can be very expensive. I found this video just yesterday. So, next year, I’ll buy the materials early and start building my sukkah the night before the holiday begins.
