It hit me like a flash of lightening, (or moonlight). What a cool theme for my New Moon Party: Kiddushah Levanah…What is THAT??? Translated from Hebrew, it means “the sanctification of the moon.” Jews literally dance under the light of the moon on the first Saturday night of the month. It’s a very old tradition. In fact, I didn’t know it existed until today. The tradition is steeped in Jewish Mysticism: and you know I love that! Then I started researching deeper and I discovered that there is a popular song about a moon dance. Not exactly Jewish, but I can work with it. In fact, I can use it to amp up the tradition and bring it new life.
One problem: I’ve gotta move the party up to July. August has an important memorial of an event and it is tradition NOT to have celebratory parties at the beginning of August. That’s when I’d planned to have it. Tradition must prevail, so I’ll move the party up to July. That means I have only 3 weeks to prepare!!! Gotta get the invitations out NOW!!!!!!
UGH! But I love the idea of my Jewish friends warming my home with a bit of dancing under the moon. Sounds wonderfully weird! And the fact that it’s a tradition will bring folks out to participate OR just watch the crazy people dancing under the moon and the stars. Be honest, you’d want to at least SEE this. You know my obsession with moons and stars has EVERYTHING to do with the two girls that I love “to the moon and back.” 🙂
Here’s the music that inspired the idea…Michael Buble sings, “It’s a Marvelous Night for a Moon Dance.” Who knows, maybe I can play more jazzy tunes afterwards and get people to keep dancing under the stars.
