Sometimes, you gotta be your own best friend or hero. I think I saved myself today. I had told a young man, who needed a place to stay for a few months, that he could stay in my guest room. We had breakfast Saturday morning and discussed it. But as he talked (and I listened) I started seeing all these red flags: little signs that this situation was not a good idea. For example, he’s in his thirties, but cannot seem to take care of basic needs: car payment, job, etc… Facts are stubborn things my sweet sisters. Fact – if you are out of school, you need to have a job that pays the bills. You must contribute to the home you are living in. You cannot be a “guest” forever! So today, I sent him a message that I’ve reconsidered my invitation. Later, I get a message back from him. He’s mad. I’ve disappointed him. He lays on the guilt. Or…he tries to. You see, guilt is not the way to get me to do anything. Backfires every time with me! I guess I feel like anyone who tries to guilt me into something isn’t much of a friend. So remember, sweet sisters – anyone who guilts you into something is NOT your friend. Remember to see the TRUTH in a situation. And if you need a hero – consider being your own hero.
Today is National Teen Literature Day! It’s also international dolphin day. Seems a great time to check out the book, Island of the Blue Dolphins. We are reading the book in school. Karana, the heroine of the story, must survive alone on an island off the coast of what is now called California. She must brave the elements, wild dogs, possible starvation and loneliness. But she is very smart. Check out this student created video:
Be your own hero. Be strong. Be tough! A Hero lies in you! 🙂
