Several months ago, my temple had a movie day. The rabbi showed the movie, Noah. I was skeptical as Hollywood doesn’t tend to appreciate stories from the Bible. But this movie was different. It made the Bible story come to life. Just recently, I bought a book and started to read it. It’s called simply – Trust. Its about how to learn to trust yourself, God, the people around you and life in general. I loved what the author said about what she learned from the story of Noah:
- Don’t miss the boat.
- Remember that we are all in the same boat.
- Plan ahead. It was not raining when Noah built the ark.
- Stay fit. When you are 600 years old, someone may ask you to do something really big.
- Don’t listen to your critics; just get on with the job that needs to be done.
- Build your future on high ground, which may not be ground you are familiar with.
- For safety’s sake, travel in pairs.
- Speed isn’t always an advantage. The snails were onboard the ark with the cheetahs.
- When you are stressed, float awhile.
- Remember, the ark was built by amateurs, the Titanic was built by professionals.
- No matter how bad the storm is, when you are with God, there’s always a rainbow waiting. Story by Anonymous. Recounted by author IYANLA Vanzant
