Their next port of call on their cruise was Montego Bay on the island of Jamaica. Both Bea and Purity knew how much their oldest brother had wanted to come to this beautiful place. In the back of their minds, they secretly hoped that Kris would be there. After all, Prudence had a way of making dreams come true.
So, when a knock at their cabin door came, they both rushed to open it.
“Hi!” said Kris. Both girls ran into his arms and they hugged for many minutes. It was good to see him. “I’ve been here for a few days, thanks to Prudence. I’m going to show you all around the island to a few of my favorite spots.” He told them about the island: its blue-green mountains, its white sandy beaches and the lilting breezes that brought down the scent of sweet flowers adorning the hillsides…
“So, what are we going to do today, Kris?” asked Prudence.
“Well, you may know that several years ago, the Jamaican Olympic Team competed in the bobsled race in the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics.
“Huh?” retorted the girls.
“Yeah, it’s kinda funny isn’t it. But it’s a true story. Have you ever seen that movie, Cool Runnings?” Kris got out his smart phone and hooked the girls up with a quick trailer of the film made in 1993.
“Did they win?” asked Purity.
“Naw!” said Kris. “But the Jamaicans had such a great time with the IDEA of a tropical nation being involved in a winter sport, they created these cool bobsled rides as an experience for tourists on the island.”
“Well, ok!” said Bea. “Let’s go bobsledding!”
The four explorers got off the ship and took the bus from Montego Bay to Ochos Rios on the other side of the island. Kris was the perfect tour guide. He knew exactly which busses to take, and how to make change with the Jamaican dollar. Since the US dollar is worth just a bit more than the Jamaican dollar (29 cents more), the girls realized they had more money to spend in Jamaica. Naturally, as they walked through the quaint tropical towns, they stopped occasionally to buy trinkets.
“I’ll keep whatever you need me to,” volunteered Kris. “I want you both to have a great day and that usually involves spending some money and buying gifts for yourself and others.
They finally made their way to the bobsled experience.
“I’m feeling Olympic, today!” pronounced Bea when she was asked if she wanted a bobsled to herself.
After their ride through the Mystic Mountain Rainforest on their individual bobsleds, the girls and Kris continued shopping and exploring on their way back to the ship.
“Tonight is the ‘elegant night’ onboard the ship.” said Purity. “I wish you could stay and go dancing with us.” She looked at Prudence.
“I brought a tux for Kris,” said Prudence. “But, I get the first dance!”
“Deal!” said Kris.
Once on board ship, they all went back to the cabin to changed into their elegant clothes. Kris looked very elegant in his tux:
When the music started, two very handsome young men came up to ask the younger sisters to dance. Kris and Prudence kept a constant watch on these “gentlemen.”
And at one point, Bea was sure she saw a man in crowd of dancers that looked a lot like her brother, Braiden. But the man disappeared.
“Maybe you were just seeing things…” said Purity.
So, they danced the night away. They both felt so empowered. It was a truly mystical and magical night…
